One
of the oldest forms of Black art, going back to the Motherland of Africa,
is African Masks and Sculpture. In contrast to the western perceptions
of African Masks being symbols of the mysterious and evil, African Masks
are usually quite benign. Many times adorned with horn like and elderly
type symbols, African Masks really symbolize things like prosperity, security,
power, and wisdom in African Societies and cultures. Much of the abstract
and complex elements of African Masks and African Art has inspired more
modern western artists like Pablo Picasso. Exploring and showcasing African
Art - African Masks - African Weaving - African Furniture and African
